Prose WordPress Theme by StudioPress is a theme built on the popular Genesis framework. It’s aimed at allowing bloggers to quickly design their own custom blog, without having to touch any code.

Prose is technically a child theme, so you install Genesis first and then activate Prose.

This method is becoming quite popular now, for example WooThemes Listings is an excellent directory theme which can have the Book Club niche child theme added to it. I’ve used this combination with success on several websites.

Prose child-theme features include:

Custom Navigation – Genesis has some of the best custom options out there and gives users complete control over the navigation on posts, pages and horizontal menus.
Sidebar Navigation – StudioPress offers a free plugin called simple sidebars that allows for complete sidebar menu flexibility.
Built-in SEO – All Genesis based themes have excellent built in search engine optimization capabilities. As I would no longer consider buying a theme that requires additional plugins for this important task, I consider this a major plus point.

Prose works really well for blogs, but if you intend to use a static homepage no widget options will be available. StudioPress’s other child-themes offer this, but unfortunately it’s not an option for this theme. So if you intend to use a static homepage with widgets, this is not a suitable choice.

StudioPress make some of the best themes and child-themes out there. They’re particularly strong if you intend to build a number of sites, as you can buy all of their by choosing their pro-plus package.
