The New Windows Tablet

I have to say that I’m looking forward to the release of the New Windows Tablet, or Microsoft Surface. Not because its made by Microsoft, but because I think its a great idea, to be able to, switch between Tablet-View, and the Standard Desktop-View, that we are all, so familiar with.

I have been waiting for the Windows Tablet, to launch for the past few months now, and it seems like its taking forever to actually reach the shelves. I’m starting to doubt that I even want one anymore. All I know is that its due to be launched in October, who know when we will actually see them in South Africa.

Even, The News Websites, have given up, on trying to predict the day, it will actually, be launching in their country. They seem to have forgotten about it, for awhile, and we not hearing much anymore.

I’m not saying I like the Windows Tablet, any more than I like the iPad, but I would like a tablet, that I can use as a tablet, that I can carry arround. But when things get a bit more serious, then I would like to switch to my normal desktop, and I would need my computer to work for me, performance wise.

Ahhh, I don’t know. It’s just so frustrating. I have never really been a fan of the iPad, or Apple Mac Computers. I don’t like the idea of buying a PC, just because of its name. Many of the people that own a Apple PC, don’t even know why they bought one in the first place. I dont believe in following the sheep. And to top it off, its a sealed product. I like to know what goes into my PC, and I like to make sure I can swap it out at anytime.

Don’t get me wrong. I think an Apple PC, is a powerful machine, and its always maxed out with cool gadgets. In the design world, we have been brought up to believe that an Apple PC, is the best possible choice for anyone, in the creative industry. But I think things are begining to change, and we are going to see a lot of new brands, enter the market.

Another thing that really bugs me, is why hasn’t anyone designed a bigger tablet. As a designer, I would prefer a 19inch, or 20inch, something with a bit of meat. I don’t mind if they take up a little more space, and with a screen that size, then they have plenty of room to work with, when adding of the internal components. The tablets are thin enough now, lets start seeing some larger screens, or are we going to have to wait another three, or four years, before that happens
